I know the cable and monitor work, I can understand their being a resolution problem, the monitor is way less capable than the retina screen. Other times it just flashes and then does nothing, certainly in display preferences I don't see the other monitor and the other monitor is blank. However, when I connect it to the Mac, the Macbook display flashes, sometimes I see the display preferences and it correctly identifies the monitor, an old Acer wide-screen, flash up and it flicks between various resolutions and preference options other times it just flashes and then goes blank (the only way I know to get back from the blank screen is to turn it off and on again). I've used this adaptor without problems on my Lenovo laptop running Ubuntu. I'm trying to connect my new 2014 Macbook Pro Retina to my VGA monitor via a HDMI adaptor. I'm new to the Mac world, so please forgive me if I'm overlooking the obvious.
